Annoying Email
As those of you that are keeping abreast of the situation can tell, I’m going through a Whateley thing at the moment. Four stories entitled Sangria:… have been posted at BCTS and the Whateley forums. this may make some of you upset, mad, happy, or in between. Well, what can I say…
I’m writing, that’s what’s important to me. I haven’t abandoned a single one of the 5 (I think) stories that I have in process. I have worked on all of them. they are just coming slow.
I’ve been receiving emails, comments, etc. that I “never” finish anything. Huh. I’m probably not taking into account that all those people are reading only one or two of my stories and to heck with the rest because they don’t fall into the reader’s preferred genre.
So here’s a list of stories that are finished
Indistinguishable
It was Fate
Faerie Queen for Life
FQ: The Consequences of Earth Magic
The Poseidon Adventure
Resident ShEvil
The Exception to the Rule
Life is Hard, Then You Nap
My Hero
I am Like Water
The Calm of My Stream
Sangria: 1 & 2
Let’s see, that equals 13 finished stories. Now for the unfinshed.
Do it Right (Series)
Transpires
Ares Bane
Royalty Consists not in Vain Pomp
The Center
That equals 5
Plus one story that was a challenge: Knowing Yourself; and one that I am currently writing: Sangria:Rubber meets the road.
13+5+1=1= 20
5 unfinished and 15 others
Yeah, I “never” finish anything. I’m getting really tired of hearing about it.
I’ve got a “Twisted” story that’s pushing 30,000 words that I’m not releasing due to this. It’s not quite finished, but very close.
I’ve got a BTVS/Marvel Comics story that’s over 30,000 words that I’m not releasing due to this. It’s a story in progress.
I’ve got a story that was a challenge response from Teddi Aldoenneti that we were working on. I’m supposed to finish that one. It’s well over 100,000 words at the moment, but I’m not posting that due to this. So, consider it a work in progress.
All of these ideas aren’t seeing the light of day because I don’t want to annoy my readers with something else to read while I get my shit together. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not going to quit writing or anything stupid like that. I just needed to vent, so I can get on with my writing.

While I might like to see more of your in progress works, I enjoy about anything you write and don’t really care where it is. I also know that you have to go where a muse takes you. I have no doubts that you will get to those other stories, even if it is “in time”. As one of your biggest, and probably oldest fans, I just look forward to hearing from you, and will happily go back and re-read something to pick up a thread if I have to. (Now thats a real chore, ain’t it). Just keep on keeping on (does that date me?) and remember….illegitimae non carborundum.

Okay Stacy, do you mean Oldest like you’re 80 or something or that you’ve been reading my stuff for a long time.
I don’t let the people get to me to the point where I want to chuck it all and take up needlepoint, but it gets really annoying to put a lot of effort (13,000 words with this latest story)into writing a story and the only thing I receive back from a reader is:
“What about (insert favorite story here) You never finish anything”
No comments about the story I wrote, just complaints. It comes with the territory. So, I vent and get it out of my system, then move on. Sometimes I want to write back and just say, “Bite me, where’s your submissions?”
Man, I’m feeling hateful today. I need a drink. I’m not normally like this. I usually just take it out on the villain of my story.

*meekly raises her hand* Guilty, sort of. I haven’t sent any emails, but I did make one teensy comment. I can see how you can get upset, proudly unveiling a new creation to the world — and having people gather around your last creation and asking for more of the same…
In my defense: What would be worse, a hue and cry over unfinished stories, or stopping a story partway through and having nobody notice at all?
If your stories hadn’t been really good, I wouldn’t be hooked — and jonesing for every one of them. Hell, even if you finish them, I’d probably be begging for sequels.
And you have a knack for stopping at the most FRUSTRATING points!
I really am enjoying the Sangria stories, but I’m unrepentant — I liked every one of your unfinished stories, too. And most of the finished ones.

Misty, I’m not talking about people that actually take the time to comment and then “nudge” me like you do. I understand that. I really do. Or the ones that asked me about progress reports, etc. People are curious. I get that too. There are several stories where I am the same way. I just get curious if the the author has given up on the story or if they are still trying.
I’m just talking about the people that are saying the “never finishing anything” line. So, don’t take this as a point finger directed at you.
You will always know where I stand in regards to uncompleted stories. If I haven’t said anything then that means I’m still working on it. If I give up on something, I’ll come out and say it.

I can understand how someone who really likes a particular story arc might want to see it come to a conclusion.
But frankly, every time you start a new story, I’m hooked. Everything is new and fresh, and it takes me in a new direction. If you were to stick to a series without your muse, it wouldn’t be nearly as good.
Bottom line, everything you write, I really like. You do finish stuff, 75% of what you write, according to you. And it’s not like you leave us on cliffhangers when you pause a serial.
Vent all you want!
